Flagship Hotel for Guoman Receives Planning Permission
Planning Approval has just been given by Hillingdon Council to redevelop the Thistle Hotel Heathrow site, close to Terminal 5, for two new hotels, designed by EPR Architects Ltd. The first hotel, a new luxury four star 250 bed hotel will be the first new building for the Guoman Hotels chain. The second hotel will be a new 353 bed budget hotel. The proposed brand has not been confirmed.
Taking advantage of the location’s excellent connections to Heathrow Airport and Terminal 5, the proposals are to demolish the existing 1960s hotel and replace it with the two new high quality hotels.
Designed as a pair, the hotels will meet the GLA 20% renewable /carbon reduction targets with a combined CHP plant with biomass boilers and photovoltaic panels on the roof. The hotels have been orientated to minimise solar gain and be visually linked along a graceful curved frontage to help with way finding and orientation.
